Photo Safari

You know what is better than a tripod? Well, a lot of things. However, I'm talking about getting your picture taken by people who do it all the time. Icing on the cake? Those people being really sweet, funny and all around great gals. Maria, Annie and I hung out on Tuesday and journeyed off to the St. Paul side of the river to take a few pictures. It was really nice to hang out with them and see how the pros do it. There are going to be a lot of pictures in this post because Maria took some with my camera and hers and Annie also snapped some candids on her camera too. Head over to their blogs and check out the snaps they took!

We also hung out with Emma on Monday who took us to this cute pub in St. Paul called Sweeny's. I stuffed my face with delicious wings and drank one too many ciders. I had a really great time and can't wait to hang with her again. Is it super dorky that I'm so happy to be making friends?

Thrift Week Volume 5 - Dot Dot Dot

This is actually the first time I've worn both of these items. Sad right? I think it is the bargainer in me that buys things even if they aren't quite right. A shirt that is too short for your tastes but you tell yourself you will wear it with tons of high waisted skirts? A skirt where the elastic is too tight to fit over your hips so you have to put in over your head? Throw them in the cart! Regardless, I think this turned out pretty cute. I think some sort of belt would have been cute with this too but remember, my accessories are on strike during thrift week.

PS please excuse my hair. This is what happens when I throw it up in the car and decide to take it down right before taking pictures. Result? A flat, kinky, sweaty mess. Also, can someone tell me how people get those super cute twirly skirt pictures? Mine didn't turn out at all!

Thrift Week Volume 4 - Accessories on Strike

I was cleaning my place (this is rare and the impulse needs to be followed or it will disappear) and then saw the sun was setting. Then I looked in the mirror. Realized an hour or so of cleaning had left me a little... sweaty. So, I quick hopped in the shower, threw this on and went outside. I think a cute little brown/tan belt would have complimented this and maybe a necklace/earrings (plus, a belt might have helped me from looking so...wide). Why did my accessories think they didn't need to come hang out? Maybe because I neglect them all the time and their feelings were hurt. They know I'm not sure what to do with them so they went on a little strike. Well accessories, I have learned the error of my ways. I needed you for this outfit. There I said it. (and yes, I love giving inanimate objects personality and feelings...)

This top is super comfy and I've told you before the error of hemming this skirt too short because I really love the color and material. Maybe I will be brave and wear this more often in the fall or invest in a nice pair of biker shorts. Even though I think "nice biker shorts" is an oxymoron.

Thrift Week Volume 3 - The Tied Shirt Conundrum

Is this outfit flattering? I'm not sure. I've seen other bloggers pull of this cute tied shirt look but I don't know if it is cute on me. The area that makes me the most self-conscious is my stomach so a high waisted skirt and a tied top... scary. But, I went with it. Maybe I'll try this look again with a not as tight skirt, something floaty. Me thinks I would feel much more confident!

Plus, bending over in this skirt is a real pain in the ass, both figuratively and literally :)

Thrift Week Volume 2 - Technical Difficulties

Hi all!

I have a bunch of pictures of thrifted outfits but my internet at home doesn't work anymore. It really makes me angry but I won't get into it. Long story short, my association made me take down my antenna that was suction cupped to my window and now I can't pick up the signal from inside. Annoying!

Because of this, I will have thrift week continuing into next week. You have so much to look forward to! I am really liking this challenge because it is forcing my to pair tops with skirts that I wouldn't have put together just because I want to have most things be thrifted. I also decided to try to wear previously unblogged items :) PS you aren't going to get very many pictures each time because I would take one or 2 then someone would walk by and I would run away. I need to get better at not caring!

From now on I'm going to write down the prices and places where I get my stuff. I think I'll also compile a list of favorite stores around the Twin Cities. Would that be helpful to anyone?

Thrift Week Volume 1

I'm just letting you know that I spent about 30 minutes untangling these 2 necklaces from each other. I felt that it allowed me to wear both of them. Other than the necklaces, this is all thrifted! Take that procrastination!

Weekend Roundup - YEEEHA!

Ha! Just a quick recap of my weekend for you all!

Friday, I met up with Maria and we went to the NE Minneapolis dog parade. It was so fun but super hot. Both Ace and Welly (Maria's doggie) were getting too overheated so we had to hop back to my house for a much needed AC break. Good thing the end point of the parade was right in front of my place!

Welly loved the ice cream once he figured out what it was! Ace gobbled his in no time (no surprise there)

I'm wearing a dress I bought online from Twitch Vintage

Then I said bye to Maria and Welly and heading over to hang out at Megan's. Nora, Amanda and Kimi were there and lots of laughs and a dance party were had.

Saturday, I hung out at my place and then headed over to my parents neighborhood to watch the Sound of Music. My dad was a baron in it :) If you are in the Minneapolis area, it's also playing this coming weekend too! We went out to dinner and then got poured on when we were leaving. There have been some crazy amounts of rain this weekend. I feel like I moved to the Amazon...

Sunday I took pictures of my cousin Kari's daughter, Reina. She is stinkin cute and fast! Oh man so fast. I will post a couple of the pictures once I edit them. We heading over to Lake Nokomis in south Minneapolis. It was SUPER humid so we were all sweaty and crabby at the end :) After that, Shawn and I headed up to his parents house for a relaxing dinner including corn on the cob, steak and brownies. Oh so good! His mom is also helping me mend/alter/shorten a bunch of things I've accumulated from the thrifting and I can't wait to get them back and show you all! She is so sweet, she wouldn't even let me pay her. I'll have to think of something nice I can get her (like a gift card) that's she can't refuse!

Hope you all had a great weekend too!
