Outfit Post - By the Lake

Last Saturday, I was driving around picking up some things for a couple of DIY projects I want to try. I thought it would be nice to show you a place that I used to go all the time as a kid, Lake Johanna. My friends and I used to ride our bikes down here and hang out by the beach. Those were the best days. No worries, no responsibilities. Just hanging out with friends and enjoying the lake.

It was REALLY windy and cold the day I was here (hence the red nose) but because of that, I was alone at the beach save for a couple of runners and people driving by. I love beaches in the cold weather and wish I had brought some cocoa and a blanket or two with to enjoy it more. Empty beaches also make for very easy and non-awkward photos shoots so enjoy the plethora of photos :)

  

Also, if you couldn't tell, my new remote came in the mail! Yay! Back to better photos. I'm hoping to get better at going places when I take photos but I can't promise anything :) I started a notes page in my phone to write down outfits that I come up with when I'm looking at Pinterest or thinking about my closet. Product Review - Fall Leaves

I finally got a chance to crunch around in the leaves. This past Sunday was sunny and gorgeous so I thought it was the perfect time to try out my new dress from eShakti. The last dress I got, I loved and this dress is the same! You can't tell so much from the pictures but it is this beautiful dark green. The tuxedo front has enough interest so you really only have to wear minimal jewelry (my favorite) but I could also see a great brooch looking nice as well. I can't wait to style it again for the holidays!

  

Like last time, I picked a standard size and it fits like a glove. I customized the length to hit at the knees which is great option that eShakti provides. I have a really short torso and long legs so to being able to customize the waist and length is perfect for me! I left the sleeves on this style alone because I like the cap style but you can pick whatever sleeve length you want on the site. Everything is customizable! I braved the cold for a couple seconds so you all could see how cute the sleeves are!

Outfit Post - New In!

A couple weekends ago, I went to visit my brother in Chicago. He just recently moved there from LA so it's nice to have him so much closer! We never really get to hang out just the two of us so it was really nice to do just that. While I was there (and he was working), I stopped at Market Supply Company. I had heard about this new store because I follow Merl's blog and her Instagram. She is a very talented jewelry designer and has teamed up with Deathrose Vintage and Midnorth Mercantile who both sell vintage clothing and accessories. I was blown away by how great the store looked. I wanted to own every item and also have my condo look exactly like it. It was very hard but I narrowed it down to this pale green dress. It fits me perfectly and I can't wait to wear it over and over! Maybe next time I will get a new remote and have much better photos for you :)

My boots are a recent purchase from Lulus and they are really comfortable! I love how much they look like real leather but were very reasonably priced. My jacket is a recent acquisition from a swap I hosted a couple weekends ago.

I'm obviously terrible at this whole self timer thing...

By the Tracks

This outfit was pretty simple in and of itself but these pictures really have a story. I'm out with my gorilla pod trying to take photos along the railroad tracks. They came through the other day and replaced a bunch of the wood along the tracks so there were all of these big pieces of old wood. I thought, it's a Friday night, no one will be around. Wrong. Pretty much every one of my neighbors was coming home from work at that exact time. I'm sure they were thinking, "Why is that girl from our building sitting on the railroad wood down there?" Oh well. Plus, since I was so nervous, a lot of these pictures didn't turn out because they were cut off or positioned wrong. Hopefully you can get the idea :)

Hey Look, An Outfit Post

It has been a long time since I posted one of these, so I thought I would throw one out there. I wore this last week when we had super hot weather. This dress is originally J Crew but I got it at the thrift store! It was much more than I would normally spend at the thrift store ($14.99) but I looked it up on Ebay and it was selling for around 80 bucks. I call that a win!

Flight of Fashion Show

I attended the United Way Flight of Fashion show a couple weeks ago and I realized I never posted about it! Shame! You can read more about it in my previous post here. It was really interesting and all for a good cause. I thought I would share a couple of the photos I took with you! I brought my nice camera but the lens I had on it did not work well in that environment. Lesson learned!

New With a Vintage Twist

Do you have create an outfit or buy a piece that you just want to wear over and over? Well, I went to Old Navy last week to look for items to bring on my trip. I don't normally shop there but I saw a chambray shirt from Gap that I wanted and I thought ON would have a cheaper version. I was right! You can see a sneak peek of the items I got below. I was pretty proud of myself. I made sure everything I bought worked with things I already had or worked together. Plus, every item was less that 25 dollars and on sale :) I think I have a great start to a versatile travel wardrobe!

Outfit Post - eShakti

I'm back with an outfit post (finally right?).  I was contacted a couple of weeks ago by eShakti to do a review of an item from their new spring line.  I jumped at the chance, of course! It was actually really hard for me to chose which dress I wanted to get this time around.  So many great colors and silhouettes offered on their site right now. Not sure if you remember what happened last time I got a dress from them. I got in a custom size and it was way too big on top (cue sad music). So, this time I opted for a standard size and just got a shorter hem length. I picked a size smaller than I would normally wear based on the sizing they had listed for the item.  It fits MUCH better than last time and the dress is a nice material as well.

To summarize, look at the size measurements on the website and be wary of ordering the custom size.  The dress is a nice material and looks well made so it is worth the price in my opinion.

I also wore this dress to another Third Thursday at the MIA. This night didn't have a particular theme since it was the opening party for their "More Real: Art in the Age of Truthiness" exhibition.  The exhibition was really well put together but that kind of art isn't really my scene so I'm not the right person to give an opinion on it.  I guess I just don't "get" most modern art.  Show me creativity or talent that went into your work and I will appreciate it but I might not understand it. The activities they had planned were fun as usual such as free haircuts, making paper cameras and live music.  I made a Vine with some of the art that we saw there. Check it out here! I also had to pose with the old-fashioned paper camera I made :)



I hope you are all having a lovely week. I've been getting ready for my cousin's baby shower I'm hosting this weekend and starting to get everything planned/situated/booked for my trip. I'll be there in less than a month now! Needless to say, I've been pretty crazy but I'm going to try to keep things going around here the best I can!

Winter Formal

No, I'm not attending a high school dance tonight. I'm wearing my "fancy" coat just for fun. I call it fancy because it's cream and I'm scared to wear it on a normal day because I'm a mess. I have to confess that the shoes I'm wearing were a terrible choice to go bounding around in the snow. They have no traction and I fell about 5 times while attempting to to take these photos. Also, you can tell these are from a little while ago because we have about 10 times this amount of snow now.





I also am wearing my fanciest (and itchiest) sweater underneath. Plus earrings AND a necklace. Watch out.
