Galentine's Day

2.18.13 001

My friends and I had a little get together complete with heart shaped pizza and delicious treats.  Then, headed out to the Heights theater and saw An Affair to Remember.  Such a great film and it was nice to hang out with some of my favorite gals. Better than sitting around feeling sorry for myself  :) Did any of you do something fun that night?

NYC Part Two - Brooklyn

I made it through the superstorm and headed over to my friend's place on Saturday morning. We walked from her place to Park Slope, had a great brunch and then headed on a nice walk around the city. She took us to the Promenade so we could see the Statue of Liberty and part of the skyline. After that, we strolled to the Brooklyn Bridge and found a delicious cookie shop and went to Jane's favorite candy store. For some reason, we were really tired after that and went back to her place for a short nap before the evening's festivities which I will cover in my next post!

NYC Part One - Manhattan

I've already shared some of my iPhone photos with you from my first day in NYC but I thought I needed to do a whole post for you :)

We got to New York the day before our customers were supposed to arrive so we took a couple hours before dinner to walk around a bit.  We were staying at the Waldorf Astoria (I know, right?) so we were somewhat in the center of things.  We headed over to Grand Central Station since I had never been inside.  We grabbed a quick cupcake from Magnolia Bakery and then headed back out.

We saw some great views of the Chrysler building (my favorite!) and the Empire State building. The urge was strong to pop into a couple of shops that we don't have in Minneapolis like Mango and Zara. There were some huge sales on so I got a really nice dark green shirt from Zara for only about $30. I'm sure you'll see it pop up in an outfit post real soon!

That night I had dinner with all of my coworkers at a FANTASTIC restaurant called Freeman's. You enter into the restaurant through the alley which seems somewhat sketchy until you get the the end with the cute door and the lights hanging from above. It's been a long time since I had a meal that was excellent from start to finish.  Our appetizers were good, my main course was delicious and the dessert I got was out of this world. If you go there, get the sticky toffee stout cake, you won't regret it.  I didn't get any photos of the restaurant but it was so cute, I took a couple from their website to show you.

The third night we were there, we had dinner at a steak place near our hotel with all our customers. My coworker and I decided to walk around the city and take in some sights. We were pleasantly surprised when we ended up in front of Rockefeller Center! We figured we wouldn't get the chance again so we plopped down $30, laced up some skates and hit the ice. Even though I grew up in MN, I am terrible at skating. As in, really have no coordination and really stink at it. However, I had a encouraging coach and made it around the rink twice without touching the wall by the end!

This part of the trip was really fun because we got to shop, see the sights but weren't in the heart of Times Square so it didn't feel too tourist-y.

Winter Formal

No, I'm not attending a high school dance tonight. I'm wearing my "fancy" coat just for fun. I call it fancy because it's cream and I'm scared to wear it on a normal day because I'm a mess. I have to confess that the shoes I'm wearing were a terrible choice to go bounding around in the snow. They have no traction and I fell about 5 times while attempting to to take these photos. Also, you can tell these are from a little while ago because we have about 10 times this amount of snow now.

I also am wearing my fanciest (and itchiest) sweater underneath. Plus earrings AND a necklace. Watch out.

Superstorm Nemo

Apparently there is going to be a huge storm here tomorrow and everyone I work with isn't able to get back home... I'll hopefully have some more photos tomorrow or Saturday to show you. We had training all day today but did have a great dinner out. On our way back to the hotel, my co-worker and I decided to stop and skate at Rockafeller Center. So fun! I'm a terrible skater but I had to do it. Hopefully I can get home on Sunday!

The Big Apple

Hey all! Sorry things have been so quiet around here the last couple of weeks. My second job has really been more tiring and time consuming than I thought it would be. Right now I'm in NYC for work so I thought I would share a couple photos from my phone! I might post a couple more but be sure to follow me on Instagram and Vine to keep up on all the action! (Thriftland is the username for both!)
