A Night at the Opera

Hi all! Isn't having a blog great? I got invited to attend the Minnesota Opera for a blogger preview of the new show, Lucia di Lammermoor.  I took my lovely friend and co-worker Danielle and it was so fun! I have never been to an opera before so I had no idea what to expect. I was really pleasantly surprised and floored by how amazing the female lead's voice was.

You can see a video clip here if you don't believe me!

It was such a cool experience. We were invited to a dress rehearsal so it felt really special to be there when the theater was almost empty. Total behind the scenes peek!  I have quite a few pictures from around St. Paul by the Ordway.

Anjolee

I am still amazed when companies find my blog and want to send me something. When I was contacted by Anjolee, I wasn't sure why a jewelry company wanted to send me something. However, after I went to their website, I was pleasantly surprised by how pretty the jewelry was. I don't know much about diamonds but I like sparkly things so it was the perfect website to browse through.  Anjolee is the only jewelry website that offers customers the ability to customize any jewelry designs to the customers’ exact preferences, taste and budget. You can actually pick the metal type, diamond quality and the total carat weight. Cool right? The diamond necklace I decided to go with was the Inverted Teardrop Necklace but they have lots of other styles of diamond necklaces to choose from so go check it out!

It's pretty easy to style a fancier necklace with a dress or other fancy items.  I challenged myself to style this necklace in a more casual way to show how well it goes with even the simplest of looks.

I really like this necklace a lot. I'm not a big jewelry person so I like that it is simple but beautiful. I feel like I will get a lot of use out of it and it will go with pretty much anything. The company was very easy to work with and my contact was super nice. Only downside is that the chain is very delicate so I was worried I would break it (I didn't!). Go check out the website for more a selection of their diamond tennis necklaces!

*In the interest of full disclosure, I received this necklace in exchange for my review but it was a positive one based on my experience. Also, my necklace is not diamonds :)

Favorite Finds Friday is Back!

I would also say, better than ever but it's not really true. I'm not always the fastest at taking outfit pictures after I find a cool item at the thrift store. I figure this is a good way to share (brag) about new things I've found before I actually style them.  Have a great weekend!

Such at steal at $7.99 Is this considered a suit? Not sure I'll ever wear the 2 things together but I think the jacket will be cute with jeans and the dress with a snazzy belt! Any other suggestions?

Loved the color and embroidery of the this sweater. I can't wait to wear it!

Both items are from the Savers in Columbia Heights, MN. I really hope they don't start to raise the prices on vintage items.  Just a tip. They have a whole long rack of vintage and I always head there first. This is the first time in a while that I found a TON and it all fit. One other thing I got was the blazer I wore in this post and the matching skirt. Look for another skirt in an upcoming post!

Saw this on a couple of blogs today and I can't just sit by and not share it with you. Hopefully, this will make at least one more person take action.

Other Babes in Thriftland - Maggie

Here is the first day of Other Babes in Thriftland and have some really great ladies lined up for you guys/gals so far. Do any guys read my blog? If you do, say hi. That would be kind of cool.

In case you blocked all of last week out of your memory, I'm featuring other ladies who's style I admire that are also Queens of the Thrift Scene. :) My first featured lady is Maggie from Dimestore Diamond. Maggie and I are friends IRL (in real life) and it's been so great getting to know her. She has such a cute style! I love when people wear outfits and you can't tell which item is the thrifted one. She always mixes pieces from the thrift store with pieces from stores like Anthropolgie to make a really unique and expensive looking outfit.  Go check her out! She sent me a couple of outfits but I liked them all too much to feature just one!

Thrift items: top and skirt.  View full post here

Thrift items: That dress!! Can you believe it?? As well as the purse. View full post here.

Thrift items: Top and shoes. View full post here.

Isn't she great? Special thanks to Maggie for being the first Other Babe in Thriftland. Look for more lovely ladies every Wednesday.  If you want to be featured, send me an email at babesinthriftland@gmail.com with a link to your favorite outfit. Also, I would love to hear your tips, a story about thrifting or why you shop at the thrift store!

Pinhead

I don't think it's any secret that I love Pintrest. Check out my profile and you'll see that I have over a 1200 pins and tons of boards. My favorite board is probably my "Inspiration from Bloggers" board. I love having a record of all of the outfits I love. I was clicking through the other day and found this pin.  Not only did I find inspiration for the outfit you'll see below but I found a cute new blog. Yes!

Shabby Apple

I meant to post the outfit I wore yesterday but flickr is being really dumb right now and I'm so frustrated.

Instead, I wanted to let you all know why you are now seeing a Shabby Apple banner on the side of the 'ol blog. I got an email from them to join their affiliate program. I'm pretty sure any Joe Schmo could go to their website and sign up but it feels cool have someone seek you out, right?  If you feel so inclined to buy something from Shabby Apple, just click on the link! In the interest of full disclosure, I'm pretty sure I get a percentage of the total sale. Just to give a little kick to your Friday, here are some of the items I like best!
