NYC Part One - Manhattan

I've already shared some of my iPhone photos with you from my first day in NYC but I thought I needed to do a whole post for you :)

We got to New York the day before our customers were supposed to arrive so we took a couple hours before dinner to walk around a bit.  We were staying at the Waldorf Astoria (I know, right?) so we were somewhat in the center of things.  We headed over to Grand Central Station since I had never been inside.  We grabbed a quick cupcake from Magnolia Bakery and then headed back out.

We saw some great views of the Chrysler building (my favorite!) and the Empire State building. The urge was strong to pop into a couple of shops that we don't have in Minneapolis like Mango and Zara. There were some huge sales on so I got a really nice dark green shirt from Zara for only about $30. I'm sure you'll see it pop up in an outfit post real soon!

That night I had dinner with all of my coworkers at a FANTASTIC restaurant called Freeman's. You enter into the restaurant through the alley which seems somewhat sketchy until you get the the end with the cute door and the lights hanging from above. It's been a long time since I had a meal that was excellent from start to finish.  Our appetizers were good, my main course was delicious and the dessert I got was out of this world. If you go there, get the sticky toffee stout cake, you won't regret it.  I didn't get any photos of the restaurant but it was so cute, I took a couple from their website to show you.

The third night we were there, we had dinner at a steak place near our hotel with all our customers. My coworker and I decided to walk around the city and take in some sights. We were pleasantly surprised when we ended up in front of Rockefeller Center! We figured we wouldn't get the chance again so we plopped down $30, laced up some skates and hit the ice. Even though I grew up in MN, I am terrible at skating. As in, really have no coordination and really stink at it. However, I had a encouraging coach and made it around the rink twice without touching the wall by the end!

This part of the trip was really fun because we got to shop, see the sights but weren't in the heart of Times Square so it didn't feel too tourist-y.
