I wanted to break this into a second post because there were too many photos from just this part :) I tried to narrow it down for you...
What you will see below is a really neat marketplace that was happening for just that weekend. I'm so glad I got to experience this. They had people doing crafts that would have been available back in George Washington's time. What's even cooler is all of the craftsmen/women were using the same techniques and materials they used back then. It wasn't just that chocolate was made back then so they had it. The women making the chocolate used an antique roaster, crushed it using a special mortar and pestal, etc. So neat to see; it was like stepping back in time. All of the vendors were in colonial garb making the experience even cooler. A true "vintage" craft fair! They also had a military set up with cannon demonstrations and really interesting speakers (George himself!). I ended up buying a cookie press made from an 18th century mold, a kit for quilling (the curled paper you see below), a pewter ornament, some lemon drop candy and a hand blown glass pitcher. The clothing was exquisite but I couldn't think what I would wear it for so I didn't linger too long. They even had powdered wigs! I wanted to buy everything there! I highly recommend going to Mount Vernon when they have one of these markets. It made the whole trip!
I hope you liked going back in time! Let me know if you have any questions!
Wow! How awesome that this was going on while you were there! The cookie press sounds really cool!
